Still-life is a subject very close to my heart. It is a wonderful
means to relax and study the
subject in a controlled atmosphere.
And judging by the reactions of viewers, I think that happy, joyful
feeling is being effectively
conveyed.
"Flowers in Glass"
is again in warm reds and browns, and the paint is applied quite thickly.
"Still-life in Kitchen"
is a study in blue and yellow.
uses all the three primary colours to produce a joyful image.
My earliest works are "Still-life with custard apple"
and
" SL with apple and jar"
Since then, I have tried various compositions in and around the house.
Like"Pot of water"
This is the humble earthen pot that every Indian home has; the
morning sun made the earthy red of the pot glow; I also wanted to convey
the beautiful reflections
bouncing off the granite counter.
I have enjoyed painting "Still-life with lemons" .
The blue and white bowl, the
lemons, the reflections on the black surface- I feel all these produce
an exciting feeling.
"Potted plants in balcony
came about on a bright sunny day when the greens
especially come to life.
I also like to assemble an assortment of objects, organic as well as
otherwise, and create still
life in this fashion.
Some paintings of everyday scenes are " Still-life with jar of
red pepper"
and "SL with banana".
Flowers are fascinating as well as challenging to paint . 'Still life
with Asters'
is a profusion of colours.
It happens often that a particular scene suddenly appears extraordinary
and unusual. This is
how 'still life with trousers
came about.
'Flowers on table'
captures the reflections on the table, the soft curves of the flowers
against the dark, hard edges of the chairs and tables..
Enjoy!!
