Aren't we living in exciting times?
A click of the mouse,a press of a button,
and the whole world comes to us;
Communication at the speed of thought,
and gadgets to relieve us of tedious chores.

The richness and variety of the world,
is thus brought into our homes.
The human spirit soaring
to conquer outer space.
Aren't we living in exciting times?

Our childhood memories of shortages of milk,
of food, of everything,
Are now but a distant blur.
Now is the age of plenty.
Aren't we living in exciting times?

But are these really exciting times?
This is the age of plenty, of abundance, yes! There is an abundance of deceit and dishonesty, of wars and violence,
of intolerance and bigotry.
Are these really exciting times?

We teach our children that hard work pays, that it pays to speak the truth,
to follow the path of virtue.
But what is 'right' and 'virtue',
in these times of flux?

Every day we see our idols, our heroes
come crashing to the ground.
They have feet of clay, after all.
And what kind of heroes were they?
Behind the gloss and glory was a web,
spun of deceit and lies.
Are these exciting times we live in?

My love, I hate to say to you
'Do not trust, do not be so warm-hearted'
I do not wish to shackle your heart.
But how can I not,
for I see the hungry vultures
behind the broad smiles and sweet sayings.
Aren't these exciting times we live in ?

Man has come a long way,
Building fanciful things around himself.
But through all this progress
he has remained pitifully small.

So before we conquer space and time
Let us take charge of ourselves.
Let us nurture amongst us
the lofty thinkers, the true philosophers
To make up for the loud but insignificant dwarfs that abound everywhere.
