We teach our children that hard
work pays, that it pays to speak the truth,
to follow the path of virtue.
But what is 'right' and 'virtue',
in these times of flux?
Every day we see our idols, our
heroes
come crashing to the ground.
They have feet of clay, after all.
And what kind of heroes were they?
Behind the gloss and glory was a web,
spun of deceit and lies.
Are these exciting times we live in?
My love, I hate to say to you
'Do not trust, do not be so warm-hearted'
I do not wish to shackle your heart.
But how can I not,
for I see the hungry vultures
behind the broad smiles and sweet sayings.
Aren't these exciting times we live in ?
Man has come a long way,
Building fanciful things around himself.
But through all this progress
he has remained pitifully small.
So before we conquer space and time
Let us take charge of ourselves.
Let us nurture amongst us
the lofty thinkers, the true philosophers
To make up for the loud but insignificant dwarfs that abound everywhere.
