This work is in the nature of an investigation / study into the connection between Andy Goldsworthy's work, the principle of Repetition, Segmentation & Differentiation, & Pre-Robotics.

My name is Anjali Arora, & this is a class project I did for my Spatial Design class at ITP (Interactive Telecommunications Program) at New York University. My starting point was an analysis of Andy Goldsworthy's work. Here is an artist that works with natural found objects, & redesigns them using minimal tools. His creations are in keeping with the spirit of the natural, & therefore the forms that he comes up with for his sculptures/artworks, resemble natural creatures (as in the snake forms), their habitats (as in the nest & web), the trails left by animals & birds, and to draw a comparison with the man-made, his works come closest to tribal structures and creations, such as the stone arch or the 'whorl' shown below.

I believe Goldsworthy's work is shaped by his choice of natural material & natural means; that is given the constraints or framework within which he chooses to work, the resultant works are bound to resemble forms found in nature. And therefore, in both, nature & goldsworthy's work, we find repetition & segmentation of forms.
