Angel Rivero Sierra, also called Andy, is
an artist from Havana, Cuba.
About Andy: Contemporary Cuban painter and
graphic designer. Shows a solid self-taught formation and has
emerged as an important representative of the current Cuban abstract
expressionism.
Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1965, Angel Eusebio Rivero Sierra, signing
as Andy, is a graduate of 1987 of the Institute of Industrial
Design of Havana, Cuba.
His oil paintings, acrylic paintings and prints, have been successfully
exhibited in numerous personal and collective exhibitions in Cuba
and abroad. They are found in numerous private collections in
Cuba, United States, Spain, Switzerland, Finland, Poland, Russia,
Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Panamá
and Perú.
Is founder of the prestigious Cuban artistic association "Hermanos
Saíz". Is member of the Experimental Workshop of Engraving
of Havana and the Cuban National Union of Artists and Writers
(UNEAC).
ARTIST STATEMENT: I have always found an
enormous source of inspiration in abstract expressionism. It has
a tremendous impact in the spectator: feelings, sensations, reflections,
all together. Colors, shapes, textures and figuration do not only
stimulate the feelings but also reflection and
creativity.
Since few ago some well known personages and images, created
by notable masters of the Cuban and universal painting, spontaneously
came out from my brush. So, I feel that slowly I am finding myself.
FROM CONCEPTION TO FINISH: In my case, the
creation of a new painting is a complex process that takes from
several weeks to months. It comes as a new and exciting project
that should has a
concrete message and purpose. Only when I feel that this scope
was reached I have finished .....
